John Abraham fractures hand on film set

John Abraham has fractured his hand while undertaking a stunt for his new movie.

According to Hindustan Times, the incident occurred during the shooting of action film Force.

Producer Vipul Shah commented: "His hand could have been seriously injured had he not worked so hard on his physique and strength.

"But it's important that John recovers so I'll shuffle the schedule around a bit. We'll shoot the easier scenes first and can film the more intense action sequences later."

Abraham, who suffered the injury during a free fall, is said to have insisted on continuing filming due to the costs involved in constructing an expensive set for the project.

The film, a remake of Southern hit Kakha Kakha, is being shot on location in Mumbai, Pune and Manali.

Abraham 'most popular brand ambassador'

John Abraham is reported to be one of the most popular brand ambassadors in Bollywood.

According to the BBC, the actor leads the way in the trend for using famous names to promote products.

"One of the most used celebrities at the moment is John Abraham. The model-turned-film star is, amongst other things, the face of French cosmetics firm Garnier," the report outlined.

Stars including Shah Rukh Khan, Amitabh Bachchan, Deepika Padukone and Ranbir Kapoor are also known to endorse a wide number of brands.

Viren Razdan, managing director of Interbrand, suggested that despite the increase in the use of celebrities to sell products, this is not always a cost-effective method.

"Association with celebrities works over a long period of time. If smaller brands think they can get instant recognition for a couple of years and then float on their own, I don't think that is a solution," he said.

John Abraham sentenced to jail

Bollywood actor John Abraham, who has been sentenced to 15 days in jail in a rash and negligent driving case registered in 2006, Friday said he would appeal against the verdict.

"To begin with, I'm a law abiding citizen and I will be appealing this verdict and will go to every length to have this verdict appealed. I'm advised that I have a good chance of succeeding this appeal, " John, who is currently out on bail, said in a statement here Friday night.

"I am also clarifying with this statement only because I am a public figure and in all modesty I do have a large youth interaction, who look to me for guidance and leadership and inspiration and I don't want them to feel or take way that when wronged, we do not fight for what is right, " John said, reading from the statement.

"I also want to categorically state that I have the highest regard for the judicial system of our great country and this is more of a personal clarification I felt compelled to make due to the public life that I also lead than I commenting in any way to the judicial view, " he added.

John was Thursday sentenced to 15 days jail by a city court. He was charged under sections 279 (rash driving or riding on a public way) and 337 (causing hurt by act endangering life or personal safety of others) of the Indian Penal Code. He immediately applied for bail and deposited a fine of Rs.1, 500.
